Aspasia

Aspasia of Miletus was a highly influential philosopher and teacher in her time. Professor to Socrates and Pericles, her contributions were minimized or altogether excluded from taught history because she was a woman. Ironically, Aspasia is Latin for “to be welcome”. Women have long been the arbiters of community, while being rendered silent or nonexistent by patriarchy.
